Justin Pokrivka (Pro XC, Road, CX)
2009 Racing Age: does it matter? do you want to know my favorite color too?
Residence: Tarentum, PA
Racing Discipline(s) & Category(s): MTB PRO Cross Country and Ultra, Road CAT 3, Cyclo Cross 3
Bike(s) of Choice: Depends on what I'm doing, but the more the better. Off road I think a 29er hard tail is the way to go if your over 5'5". I love aluminium and scandium, TI sounds nice but carbon scares me, and steel doesn't seem worth the extra weight to me. On the road I really like carbon smooth, fast, and stiff, aluminium is nice never had a steel or TI so not sure. For cyclo cross I think it would be TI, steel, scandium, then aluminum, in that order. But everyone needs to ride a fixed gear or single speed at least once so you can enjoy how simple bikes could be.
Number of Years Racing: 10 plus
Best results and/or Accomplishments:
2008-3rd Mount Snow Nationals, 1st Massanutten HOO HA, 3rd Greenbiar, 3rd Mountaineer Stage race, over 60 races with 40 top fives and only 2 DNF's
2007-2nd Mountwood, 1st Big Bear, 2nd Henry Clay, climbed Mt Everest, captured Bigfoot (just checking to see if your reading everything)
2006-3rd in NUE Series in 06, 7th W101, 4th Mohican 100
Favorite Race Course: Not many bad ones and it's to hard to pick just one so here's a few. The Wilderness 101, Massanutten HOO HA, the Shenandoah 100, Michaux Series, Revenge of the Rattlesnake, Big Bear, Henry Clay, Mohican Wilderness and 100, 7-Springs 24 hour, Tour of Tucker County, Dash for Cash, Brady's Run, Moraine, Roaring Run off road and road races. What makes any course a "BAD ONE" is bad marking.
Favorite Pittsburgh Area Trail: Deer Lakes for two reasons first I always ride to there (because cars suck) and it's never crowded.
Favorite Pre-Ride/Race Meal: Good coffee, cereal, oatmeal, bagels, pancakes, home fries, bananas, peanut butter sandwiches, fig newtons, nutter butters, apples, but no EGGS
Favorite Post-Ride/Race Meal: A can of COKE is a good start, after that almost anything that needs to be cooked, but still no EGGS
Non Cycling Interests/Hobbies: When I'm not leaping tall buildings in a single bound and ridding the world of do-gooders, I'm busy finding ways to live cheaper, playing Madden on Playstation, following the Steelers and NFL, working out gym rat stuff like lifting weights, and sleeping.
2009 Goals: It's still early but the La Ruta, top 10 in some of the NUE races, and in the money at the rest.
Additional Sponsors or Must Have Equipment: Cohen & Associates chiropractic care, Attitude because you'll never get anywhere without that, a comfortable seat I like WTB's shadow V, good shorts, a bike that fits. Some of my favorites are AVID brakes, SRAM XO drive train, Thompson seat post and stems, Easton bars and posts, XTR anything, American Classic hubs, Stan's rims, Cannondale Lefty, Specialized Fast Track tires, Garmin 305 edge because it's cool to see where you were.
